Bechet-Luter – January 31 1952
The American Record Guide August 1953 Volume 19 Issue 12
The enterprising Blue Note label has been doing double duty lately. That man Bechet continues to be the mainstay, and the latest (BN-7024) is a worthy addition to the firm’s long list. It is called Jazz Festival Concert, Paris 1952, which precludes further comment except to cite part of the contents: South, Frankie and Johnny, and In the Streets of Antibes are the best.

Down Beat 11 February 1953 Volume 20 Issue 3
Jazz Festival Concert Paris 1952 is the title of this LP, recorded before a large audience of French squares who roar when he announces St. Louis Blues but react mildly to September Song. The numbers are announced by Sidney, whose French consists mainly of four words: Merci beaucoup. Et maintenant...Aside from the fact that the accompanying band (presumably French) makes it unfair to assess his work here, there is still a sizable doubt as to how much of Bechet is talent, how much cultism and legend. If you dig le style Nouvelle Orleans, better hear this and decide for yourself. (Blue Note 7024)
